Conscientious, Fulfilled, and Spiritual

The Renaissance was a cultural movement that profoundly affected European intellectual life.  Beginning in Italy, and spreading to the rest of Europe by the 16th century, its influence affected literature, philosopy, religion, art, politics, science, and all other aspects of intellectual enquiry. Renaissance artists looked at the human aspect of life in their art.  They did not reject religion but tended to look at it in it's purest form to create visions they thought depicted the ideals of religion.  Painters of this time had their own style and created works based on morality, religion, and human nature.  Many of the paintings depicted what they believed to be the corrupt nature of man.

People that like Renaissance paintings like things that are more challenging.  They tend to have a high emotional stability.  They also tend to be more concientious then average.  They have a basic understanding of human nature and therefore are not easily surprised by anything that people may do.  They enjoy life and enjoy living.  They are very aware of their own mortality but do not dwell on the end but what they are doing in the present.  They enjoy learning, but may tend to be a bit more closed minded to new ideas as they feel that the viewpoint they have has been well researched and considered.  These people are more old fashioned and not quite as progressive.  They enjoy the finer things in life like comfort, a good meal, and homelife.  They tend to be more spiritual or religious by nature.  They are open to new aesthetic experiences.

ren art lover, big surprise!!?? not.

Mark DeMoss, former chief of staff to Jerry Falwell and now a leading Christian public relations executive:

"Too many evangelicals and religious conservative are too preoccupied with values and faith and pay no attention to competence. We don't apply this approach to anything else in life, including choosing a pastor." Imagine, he said, if a church was searching for a pastor and the leadership was brought a candidate with great values but little experience. "They've been a pastor for two years at a church with 150 people but he shares our values, so we hired him to be pastor of our 5,000 person church? It wouldn't happen! We don't say, 'He shares our values, so let's hire him.' That's absurd. Yet we apply that to choosing presidents. It blows my mind."...

To be clear, DeMoss isn't saying Palin is unqualified. "The reality is, we don't know - and neither does McCain if he only met her once." The other Christian leaders who rallied around her didn't know much either. "I'm not hinting something's amiss but we don't know her and the people who gave her glowing response Friday didn't know. The euphoric rush to anoint without knowing -- it's a dangerous thing."

*thinking* republican & christians are appalled. too bad you play footsie with hillbillies to get votes/power/money you get dirty.

books !! mini reviews??!!

yay i haven't done this in awhile. ever since i discovered the computer i don't read books much anymore. i still buy them though. dopy huh.

ok i threw in the towel on "mary chestnut's civil war". i don't throw in the towel often. last time it was "american psycho" & before that the "history of the third reich". there is a similiarity here. AP was too disjointed. it wasn't a book it was snippets. third reich was painfully detailed. page 500 "hilter had tea & eggs, petted dog, thought about killing jews". 5000 pages to go??!!

mary is a diary of an upper class confederate woman. written before, during, after the WAHR. it was like reading an LJ. very disjointed. if you wanted to "get" what mary was alluding too you could read copius footnotes. it was a book in a book. minut detail about the confederate side there. frankly not enough about the big picture. it never flowed or grabbed me. i've read better on this topic.

daughter of egypt; very fast read. breezing over view of the reda dance co. focused on farida fahmy. just a few tid bits.

reda intentionally fused ballet, western theatrical theory with MED. the dance was a fusion. on the other hand he meticulously researched the music & the costumes. the end result was a romaticized version of the "real" thing.

reda thought it was interesting though when they toured egypt & performed in far out villages that the natives saw themselves & raved about it. he felt that he was bringing to life the internal vision arabs had of themselves.

farida was put on the pedestal with om koulsom as the embodiment of arab womanhood. because she was a dancer though working in essentially a state sponsored troupe for a socialist government she retired at 40 on a pension. om made millions.

bellydancers adored farida it was not really returned. she liked them as people, fellow artists but didn't understand that mash of things they put together & called bd.

ragia hasan was a reda dancer. she came from old cairo. she was attracted to reda cause they they were not just dancers but all college educated. she liked the idea of dancing, getting paid & being respected.

farida fahmy meet sahra when she came to the states to futher her education. sahra is essentially a reda dancer.

get the book if you can. i think it puts into context what we call modern egyptian since so much is based on ragia hasan these days.

next i'm reading "harlot by the side of the road, forbidden bible stories"

quote; Americans know we have deeply serious problems and are tired of deeply unserious posturing. Republicans have grasped this. That's why they actually rejected the most polarizing (Giuliani) and cynical (Romney) and facile (Huckabee) candidates, in favor of a serious man, who is at least open to opposing arguments and engaged in more than partisan hucksterism and nasty minority-baiting.

The Democrats, so far, have as well. Obama is simply more capable, more trustworthy, more reasonable and less partisan than Clinton. That's all. He is not a messiah, for Pete's sake, and I'm tired of being told that those of us who support him are somehow irrational or emotional. Above all, he will not breathe new life into the very pathologies with which we have all been consumed for too long. She will. Some of this is her fault; some of it isn't. I see my own attempt to move forward constructively impeded by the emotions she and her husband have the power to evoke. But her partisanship and divisiveness are not in my mind alone. She knows what she's doing - and, in my view, we cannot afford her any more.

If that is a new politics, fine. But only if "new" means  an older, calmer discourse for newer, more perilous times. That's what Obama represents. And we have to keep focused on that, unless the easy and familar habits of easy, tired politics prevent us from seizing a moment that history doesn't offer very often...unquote

all i expect is a change in tone. unfortunetely i think the beginning of the end starts for obama tonight & it's gonna be ugly.

RED raved about it. so i contacted them about a scholorship. i heard right back. all i have to do is promise to work ,gotcha, better at that than mingling with strangers & put a deposit down. i was surprised it was easy & don't have the $$$ right now?? still saving up for sahra!! i figure i can drive. it's the same distance from me to where my mom used to be. i would arrive just as it opens. i can only stay a few days though. getting sitting for THAT alone will be pulling teeth. soooo gotta come up with an answer.

you are darkredviolet
#600B40

Your dominant hues are red and magenta. You love doing your own thing and going on your own adventures, but there are close friends you know you just can't leave behind. You can influence others on days when you're patient, but most times you just want to go out, have fun, and do your own thing.

Your saturation level is high - you get into life and have a strong personality. Everyone you meet will either love you or hate you - either way, your goal is to get them to change the world with you. You are very hard working and don't have much patience for people without your initiative.

Your outlook on life is slightly darker than most people's. You try to see things for what they are and face situations honestly. You'd rather get to the point than look for what's good.
